Leading companies in the marine industry have long recognised the crucial role professional industrial design plays in their market performance. Products, which have been traditionally task oriented and aimed at professionals, now have to appeal to untrained occasional users whose lives may depend on an intuitive interface, large clear displays and rugged reliability. The very hostile conditions these products endure are demanding both mechanically and technologically. LA understand this and with their very practical approach have been active in the marine sector over a decade; led by Partner Will Bentall, himself a keen sailor.

LA’s recent projects include: Cetrek’s 2000 range of instruments and auto pilots; the multi award winning 406 Epirb, and other safety equipment for Paines Wessex/McMurdo; and an innovative modular system of bridge consoles which enables ALSTOM to supply Dynamic Positioning Systems to working boats and commercial shipping on very short lead times.
